A cruise honeymoon or a resort honeymoon?
A cruise honeymoon or a resort honeymoon?
It can be a tough choice. Here is how to choose.
My fiance and I want to go somewhere warm and tropical for our honeymoon. Initially, I thought about going on a cruise. I have been on one before and loved that it was all inclusive and that there were plenty of excursions and new things to do. However, I also feel we might not get the whole “relaxing on the beach” honeymoon vibe if we are on a ship the whole time. I’m also worried that if we plan to go stay at a resort for a week we won’t get to do as many activities as a cruise package offers.
So, resort versus cruise?
Resort honeymoon
- We decided on the resort because it actually included a lot more then just the cruise. Some resorts include certain tours and things. They include all sorts of activities if you want to stay on the resort as well and the food is amazing and most resorts have lots of options for food. They include usually water sports and water activities like catamaran’s and things like that too.
- If you want to go to a resort, check into their packages first. I have heard that St. Lucia and Costa Rica offer a wide variety of activites compared to other locales.
- You could easily go to a beach for half of the ports or easily do an excursion from the resort for half of your resort stay. etiher way you get the best of both worlds. both ways are what you make of them.
- Or you could do both-do a few nights in Puerto Rico or Barbados (where ships leave from and you still have great beaches) and then get on a cruise from there.
- I think that the reason we chose the resort is because we would much rather have 5-6 days at one spot with tons of stuff to do in that area instead of just stopping at a spot for 8ish hours and trying to get everything you want to get done in that short amount of time. The pro to the resort honeymoon is that we can create our own schedules and not have to make sure or worry that we have to be back at the ship for a certain time. All of the parks and excursions we did included food, some included all you can drink as well. We had a great time and I tell everyone to go down there!
Cruise honeymoon
- With a cruise you are stuck on a boat for days just to get to another place and have just a short amount of time again. If you want to a go on a cruise look at how long the ship is in each port. On a Carnival cruise that went to St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Kitts, St Lucia, and St Maartin for example, you will be in most ports from 8am-5 pm, so plenty of time to relax on the beach.
- Cruises can be very tiring as well though. We found that when we went on cruises we were usually up early each day so we could spend the majority of the day on the island. That said, most cruises are at ports for a good chunk of the day so you can make your honeymoon relaxing by going to beaches at some islands and then maybe doing excursions on others so you are not on the go every day.
- We thought about a cruise for our honeymoon because we love that everything is all inclusive, but we want to go with a more relaxing and secluded honeymoon so we went with a resort.
That should give you a better idea of the cruise or resort honeymoon options.
