A cruise honeymoon or a resort honeymoon?

It can be a tough choice. Here is how to choose.

My fiance and I want to go somewhere warm and tropical for our honeymoon. Initially, I thought about going on a cruise. I have been on one before and loved that it was all inclusive and that there were plenty of excursions and new things to do. However, I also feel we might not get the whole “relaxing on the beach” honeymoon vibe if we are on a ship the whole time. I’m also worried that if we plan to go stay at a resort for a week we won’t get to do as many activities as a cruise package offers.

So, resort versus cruise?

Resort honeymoon

We decided on the resort because it actually included a lot more then just the cruise. Some resorts include certain tours and things. They include all sorts of activities if you want to stay on the resort as well and the food is amazing and most resorts have lots of options for food. They include usually water sports and water activities like catamaran’s and things like that too.

If you want to go to a resort, check into their packages first. I have heard that St. Lucia and Costa Rica offer a wide variety of activites compared to other locales.

You could easily go to a beach for half of the ports or easily do an excursion from the resort for half of your resort stay. etiher way you get the best of both worlds. both ways are what you make of them.

Or you could do both-do a few nights in Puerto Rico or Barbados (where ships leave from and you still have great beaches) and then get on a cruise from there.

I think that the reason we chose the resort is because we would much rather have 5-6 days at one spot with tons of stuff to do in that area instead of just stopping at a spot for 8ish hours and trying to get everything you want to get done in that short amount of time. The pro to the resort honeymoon is that we can create our own schedules and not have to make sure or worry that we have to be back at the ship for a certain time. All of the parks and excursions we did included food, some included all you can drink as well. We had a great time and I tell everyone to go down there!

Cruise honeymoon

With a cruise you are stuck on a boat for days just to get to another place and have just a short amount of time again. If you want to a go on a cruise look at how long the ship is in each port. On a Carnival cruise that went to St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Kitts, St Lucia, and St Maartin for example, you will be in most ports from 8am-5 pm, so plenty of time to relax on the beach.

Cruises can be very tiring as well though. We found that when we went on cruises we were usually up early each day so we could spend the majority of the day on the island. That said, most cruises are at ports for a good chunk of the day so you can make your honeymoon relaxing by going to beaches at some islands and then maybe doing excursions on others so you are not on the go every day.

We thought about a cruise for our honeymoon because we love that everything is all inclusive, but we want to go with a more relaxing and secluded honeymoon so we went with a resort.

That should give you a better idea of the cruise or resort honeymoon options.

Anyone go camping on their honeymoon? I think this would be great fun, and what a better way to get some time away alone? I know a few people who camped for their honeymoons. For most it was a way to save money. A good tip - I think if you do decide to go camping you should make sure to have a back-up plan in case of bad weather – this is important. But for a couple who really loves the outdoors camping together can be a really fun way to vacation! If I were a camper in the United States I would go to the Rockie mountains most likely.

Spend your honeymoon camping!

However, I think that camping is great and all, but I personally am the kind of person that really wants that romance by the beach and such. However, I do love the outdoors and I do think that I would have to take my new bride camping once simply because it is amazing. What’s better than laying out under the stars with the one you love? I don’t think anything. Honeymoons are more for being with your loved one and being relaxed. Some people dont think camping is really the way to go. I guess if both of you are really into it then go do that, but its kind of not the typical honeymoon.

Deciding on the perfect honeymoon destination can be difficult. It’s an important holiday that should not only reward couples with romance and relaxation but also a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Honeymoons are very individual things. Some couples want a child-free, resort vacation, others may want to include soft adventure or nightlife in their holiday… some may want total privacy while others may want to meet new people. So in summary, camping on your honeymoon doesn’t seem so bad. As long as you make it a special trip, both of you can definitely remember it and have a story to tell to the grand children someday. There are a lot of things and places that couples can do and visit on their honeymoon and what I think that is important here is that they do it together, they do it as a couple. Going on a camping honeymoon definitely depends on your character!

Places to go on a honeymoon

Here are some international destinations to get you day dreaming about your honeymoon! Here is a random trip around the world to find some tried-and-tested and some more surprising places to go on a honeymoon.

Places to go on a honeymoon in Europe.

Switzerland.

Like efficiency, cuckoo clocks and breathtaking mountains? Go to Switzerland! St. Moritz, Switzerland is more than a destination, there you can do skiing, horse racing, sailing, and shopping, and boasting an average of 322 days of sunshine, this sophisticated city is the ultimate jetsetter paradise.

Paris, France

Paris and Versailles are absolutely beautiful and extremely romantic for a honeymoon if you can take the river cruise around the Eiffel tower at night its something you’ll never forget

Places to go on a honeymoon in the US, Caribbean and Central America.

Florida

If you like some good ol’ fashioned southern hospitality and the beach then Florida is for you. St. Augustine FL is romantic, steeped in history, warm, cultured and lovely for couples.

Costa Rica

This place was definitely unique. Your own villa in a private rainforest in Costa Rica. They offer an incredible package, which is very reasonably priced considering how much stuff they include. Magical, Romantic, Tropical, Adventurous. It was just what tropical lovers want!!

www.mytropicalhoneymoon.com

Many people will suggest the Caribbean, it’s not too expensive yet it’s truly beautiful! And in the Carribean you will truly love the Bahamas, the jewel in the crown.

Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, Caribbean

The ABC Islands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, are considered low risk for hurricanes. There are not as many all-inclusive resorts though. Aruba offers the “One Cool Honeymoon” promo with extra perks for honeymooners to many of the island resorts. One all inclusive resort to consider is Occidental Grand Aruba Resort. http://www.occidentalhotels.com/grandaruba/index.asp

Hawaii

Hawaii is also a nice trip, one of my best friends went their for their honeymoon and it was truly spectacular. According to the comments of other honeymooners the northshore is much more interesting than the south of that island, so being around the city of Princeville is a good choice for couples. Its quiet and atmospheric.

There are obviously many more places to go on a honeymoon. Check back regularly for our destination guides that are currently being written and will be released in the next few months. If you enjoyed this post please take a moment to share it with your friends!

So you are off on your honeymoon. Its an exciting time, but have you remembered everything when you are planning the whole thing? Well, if you are not sure have a look at this handy list for a quick rundown on all the things that you need for your honeymoon.

The honeymoon checklist

1. Discuss the type of honeymoon you want and set a budget. A cruise or resort vacation? Europe or Hawaii? There are .so many choices.

2. Begin the process of obtaining passports if you don’t have them. Remember that this could take many weeks, if not months.

3. Find out if a Visa is required and then apply for it as soon as you have your passport. Also check on inoculation requirements for the country you’ll be visiting. Make a note of getting these.

4. Make your reservation and then confirm all details. Make sure names are spelled correctly. When purchasing air reservations confirm seat assignments. Purchase trip insurance.

5. Set up a honeymoon registry list of gifts you would like to receive, including lodging, airfare, romantic dinners and activities.

6. If you’ll need foreign currency, exchange enough money ahead of time to get from the airport to your hotel.

7. Reconfirm all reservations a week prior to departure. (Reconfirm flights again the day before travel.)

8. Leave a copy of your travel itinerary and phone numbers with someone at home in case of an emergency.

9. Make sure you do not pack your travel documents and passports in your luggage.

10. Remember, you should purchase airline tickets in your maiden name! This is because otherwise you’ll have difficulty at the airport since you won’t have any proof you have a different identity (no certified marriage cert, changed driver’s license for example because it’s too soon after the wedding).

So, there you have it, a useful honeymoon preparation checklist. Now all thats left is enjoying your honeymoon!

Honeymoon spots in California

Considered one of the richest and most diverse states in America, California is sure to offer even the most eclectic couple a honeymoon to remember. Always at the forefront of entertainment and culture, California is a true melting pot and is guaranteed to be the perfect honeymoon destination all year round. Whether you prefer the great outdoors or a cultural extravaganza, California boasts something for everyone.

Honeymoon locations in California.

San Francisco is widely acclaimed as one of California’s most historic and beautiful cities. Its intriguing streetscapes and natural beauty, along with the bustling and diverse nightlife of the city’s many historic districts, make it an ideal honeymoon spot. By day San Francisco offers a plethora of activities to suite most tastes and budgets. If you are interested in having an active honeymoon with plenty of time spent outdoors San Francisco will definitely be able to accommodate you. Angel Island state park is located on the largest island in the San Francisco bay and offers a wide range of activities for outdoor enthusiasts, as well as breathtaking and romantic views of the city itself. With diverse street ways and multi-use neighbourhoods the city’s urban beauty is also well worth a look.
Whether you want to walk, bike or Segway, San Francisco is one of the most accessible and highly recommended cities to explore. For those who wish to take in the city’s rich history and culture there is a wide variety of locations and experiences. Of course some of the most notable landmarks, including Alcatraz and the Golden Gate bridge, will be at the top of most peoples itineraries.
However, it is recommended to take a helicopter tour or harbour cruise around the bay to discover some beautiful hidden locations.
About an hour away from San Francisco lies the Napa Valley. This is the United States premier wine producing region, and the perfect location for a relaxed and indulgent honeymoon. The region includes over 200 wineries along with a wide variety of gourmet restaurants, quaint upscale B&B’s and relaxing spas.

Many choose to tour the entire region, with over 5 million people a year visiting all six of the valleys main towns. Each of the towns has its own individual character, and offers different amenities and experiences. Along with the main town of Napa, perhaps the most popular is the town of Calistoga which is renowned for its natural mineral waters and mud baths.
Another of California’s premier honeymoon locations is the city of San Diego. Situated on the pacific coast, and boasting sixteen pristine beaches, it is the perfect destination for sun worshippers.
The city’s two largest beaches, pacific and La Jolla beach, also include a large and bustling strip of bars, shops and restaurants which are guaranteed to provide ample night-time entertainment. If you get tired of your beach paradise a trip to Balboa park is highly recommended. This massive complex hold a variety of museums, gardens and attractions which should appeal to almost everyone. From the museum of man and Hall of Champions to the San Diego zoo, it should be impossible to run out of fun and exciting things to do on a honeymoon in California.

Spain is a perennially popular with tourists for its sunshine, exotic culture and outdoor lifestyle. Here we have a look at some of the best honeymoon spots in Spain. Spain is one of the largest countries in Western Europe so you are really spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a honeymoon destination. Here are honeymoonguy’s pick of the best locations.

Honeymoon spots in Spain

Valencia – This is a somewhat sleepy city on the east coast of Spain. In fact it is the third-largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona and has a laid-back, distinctly Mediterranean feel about it. The traditional Spanish dish, paella originated from this area. The City of Arts and Sciences is the most famous landmark of the area and an architectural masterpiece. Catalan is spoken in the area which means that sometimes you may feel that you are not even in Spain, but somewhere even more exotic!

Barcelona – Barcelona for many Spaniards is the more chic, elegant and cosmopolitan of the Spanish cities. Its proximity for France and therefore the rest of the continent means that it is a crossroads to Europe.

Madrid is the capital city of Spain and the historic city centre is teeming with ancient churches, cathedrals, plazas and intimate nooks and crannies. The best time to visit is in the spring, when it is not too hot.

Canary Islands - The Canary Islands are off the coast of northern Africa and although they are part of the Spanish crown, they have an authentically Afro-European flavour. Lanzarote and Tenerife are two of the largest islands in the chain and offer much for honeymooners.

Those are just a taste of honeymoon spots in Spain. We hope that this has given you some general overview of an area you would like to focus on. If you are interested in more honeymoons in a Spanish speaking country have a look at Cuba honeymoons .

Cuba, the biggest island of the Caribbean, is best known for its beaches, cigars and mojitos. The white, luscious beaches and luxurious resorts are a perfect accompaniment for a great honeymoon, but there are enough activities to keep active couples happy.

Cuba honeymoon destinations

Arguably the most famous of all places, and the best Cuba honeymoon destination, are the islands north of the mainland called “Jardines del Rey” (translated as the “Gardens of the King”). These islands were celebrated in Ernst Hemingway’s posthumously published book called “Islands in the Stream”.

These islands, boasting numerous four and five star hotels, are a haven for water sports and activities. Water activities such as diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing can be done in crystal clear turquoise water. Boats, catamarans and kayaks can be rented from hotels and private companies.

Other activities include exploring “Cayo Coco”, one of the islands of “Jardines del Rey”, by moped; and having a drink and listening to Cuban music at “Cueva del Jabali” (translated as the “Cave of the wild boar”), an authentic dark cave.

Places of interesting include the sand dunes of “Pilar beach”; “La Redonda” lagoon; the Dutch styled village of “Cayo Coco”; and “El Baga” natural park (formerly the Cayo Coco airport).

The islands can be reached by several methods: by air via the Cayo Coco Airport; by car via the causeway which links it to the Cuba mainland; and by boat via the marina on “Cayo Guillermo”. Due to embargoes much of Cuba is like stepping into a time capsule from the 1950s! This makes it even more of an intriguing destination for honeymooners.
